Earthly Brew: Turmeric FTW!

Finally, I was able to take time and make this simple organic DOTD: Turmeric for the win!

Aside from getting a whole lot of health benefits from turmeric which I already told you from one of my blogs right here, you can actually prep up this spicy brew within just a few minutes or if you’re just getting a bit jaded with your everyday coffee.

Prepping this earthly love is really simple. Here’s how:

You’ll need:

  • Turmeric,  2-3 pcs. thumb-size rhizome
  • Black pepper, grounded ½ tsp. (black pepper has piperine which increases the bio-availability of the potent ingredient curcumin in Turmeric; to simply put it, it becomes a thousand times more potent and pro-health with black pepper!)
  • Water, 4 cups
  • Honey (optional)

Preparation:

Clean the turmeric rhizomes through running water and make sure you rid of the dirt especially from the parts with crevices.

So what I did was instead of slicing and dicing it, I just simply pounded on the rhizomes until they’re just perfectly crushed. That way, its bright orange juice (which makes it potent) can easily be extracted with no trouble of getting rid of the crushed rhizomes.

FYI, turmeric may stain on just about anything, including on your hands, kitchen utensils, etc. but eventually it will fade away in a day or two through frequent washing.

Bring 4 cups of water to a boil then put in the crushed turmeric rhizomes and black pepper for 3-5 minutes.

Meanwhile… laid back & chillin’ with my homie fridge while waiting, LOL :))

After you get it to boil, remove from heat and set aside. Let it cool for a few minutes, just enough time for the turmeric and pepper residues to set down since they’re both not TOTALLY soluble in water.

That’s about it!

In my case, I think 1-2 cups a day is just enough. My husband and I tend to have 1 cup each before bedtime.

For BEST RESULTS, since turmeric is fat-soluble (google it!), it is also best mixed with food that has fat, e.g. milk, coconut oil, and olive oil. For the frequency of intake, I also looked it up and found out that many naturopathic practitioners “recommend giving a few weeks break from any long term herb use”. Just the same, moderation is key.

Hope this helps! ‘Til next time brewers!
